Málaga TechPark delegation visit to SAIL

What are the opportunities for Spain and Singapore to collaborate through leveraging innovation and public-private partnerships?

Yesterday (7 July), we at SAIL, together with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) and NTUitive, had the pleasure of hosting delegations from Málaga TechPark during their mission to Singapore. The mission was facilitated by Embassy of Spain in Singapore. The exchange allowed all parties to share information about the innovation landscapes and opportunities for public-private partnerships in both Singapore and Spain.

Málaga TechPark is the world headquarters of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) and Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain (APTE). It plays an important role in bridging the innovation gap in Spain and Europe broadly through fostering an ecosystem that includes small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), corporations, startups, researchers, and incubators, making it an attractive destination for international firms to operate and locate their research and development (R&D) centres. The University of Málaga also plays a vital role in supporting Málaga TechPark with its talent pool and technology transfer programmes.

In Singapore, SAIL focuses on agri-food works to foster an innovative ecosystem here in Singapore and the region. As a national platform for driving agri-food innovations, SAIL identifies and connects our Corporate Partners’ challenge statements with solution providers – from startups, institutes of higher learning, and research institutes. SAIL is operated by NTU Singapore, with its strong record of industry collaboration with 29 Corporate and Joint Labs on campus. This makes NTU an ideal destination for companies to co-innovate – leveraging NTU’s research expertise and capabilities as well as its talent pool across diverse domains.

Within this ecosystem, entities such as SAIL and NTUitive help to bridge the gaps between corporate challenges, research, innovation, and product development. NTUitive plays a role in translating the research conducted in NTU into businesses, allowing for the commercialisation of innovative products.
